Crossover at its core is using Wine as engine. Tho they wright their own code for optimization for their own products. For more info about Crossover for Mac go here Second option is Wine. This because Wine developers have not made an easy installer for Mac only linux yet so you have to compile it yourself.
But if you have OSX SDK installed on your system and you want to give it a try then you will find more info right here However and this is the downside,sometimes they will break some compatibility with some software in order to get others to work better. But in overall Rift works very good on the latest version of WIne. We can also use Wineskin.
Wineskin is basically just a wrapper somewhat like Crossover to get Rift working on our Macs. Tho the learning curve of using this program is more difficult then using Crossover but it will save you allot of time and effort by compiling Wine yourself.
Many people have tried with success and others have failed. But if you know your way around Wine then you probably can use this application with ease. But for more support on Wineskin you can go here which will give you a detailed description on how to setup Wineskin to get your game running. This option is made by myself. I have made a Rift installer for Mac so you can get into the game without figuring out all of the options above which I just wrought.
The installer is made with Wineskin using Wine 1. Right now with my own installer I can play this game for hours and hours and I'm glad to say I have not yet had a crash using this.
But what may work for me might not work for you, since every Mac is different in configuration their might be some problems. However their are a few known problems so far which we all will get no matter what you do Problems as of right now are.. Depending on your specific configuration and windows OS you are installing you might need your Mac OS install disk for the necessary drivers. Good luck! Since there was a lot of of Mac users on the rift forums and fansites asking for help I posted this solution at that time. I do however like what Codeweavers is doing and support them. Early adopters of Crossover games experience enjoyment flaws with many games, just read their support pages.
Crossover has given Rift a Silver Medal Officially Supported which means Rift will install and run well enough to be usable but will have bugs that prevent them from running flawlessly. Or is all I really need a Windows 7 disc and my Snow Leopard disc?
In the end I used a wired Apple keyboard and Logitech mouse with no issues. All I had was Windows 7 Ultimate ver. Some of the crashes are apparently related to the ATI card, although this may only be while playing with Crossover.
Did you experience regular crashes while running under Bootcamp? For example, Rift crashes whenever the character equipment panel is opened for ATI users playing with Crossover. No problem Torv, all my pleasure. A lot of the iMacs run into issues when installing Win7. After the final reboot one would expect the installation to be complete, instead you will be greeted with a black screen — unable to complete the install.
Win7 has installed its own set of video drivers which happen to not be compatible with the Mac. Delete the ATI. You should now be able to boot into the Win partition and complete the install. If the answer is yes, then baring illegal downloads, you will have to purchase a new copy of Windows 7. However, even with Product Key, such practices violat your terms of use from Microsoft. Contact MS direct if you have legitimately lost your CD, for a nominal fee they should send you a recovery disk.
Hey, I have a windows 7 also but i dont have enough space on there… so the disc that came with my windows will work? If you are referring to the Boot Camp partition not having enough space, sounds like you will need to remove the partition and redo Boot Camp with a larger partition for Windows, if you have the space you can use 30 to 40 GB which will allow for a Windows install plus a few of the larger games to be installed too.
